The FreeDry™ unit combines the low-cost benefits of cooling-based dehumidification technology with an advanced low-temperature desiccant rotor for moisture removal and 60 percent lower annual operating costs, said the company. Instead of using natural gas to reactivate the desiccant wheel, the dehumidification unit uses the waste heat from the arena’s ice plant. According to the manufacturer, the unit’s heat pump and multiple-scroll air conditioning compressors enable it to maintain indoor humidity levels easily even under the most extreme summer outdoor conditions. The system can be sized to assist with ventilation code requirements.
